Week 6: Reunion in Sally

The CP3P training course in Sally, Senegal lasted till Tuesday. Seven days in a row. Literally a marathon covering a distance of more than 48 km or on average of almost 10,000 steps a day according to my Fitbit watch. Definitely one of my most intense training courses ever, though as indicated highly rewarding.

Even more positive was the opportunity to catch up with Andres Rebollo, who took over the remainder of the course. Andres is the director of the K-Infra and our relation started in 2018 when I decided to take a CP3P preparation course in Madrid delivered by Andres and discuss a possible co-operation. We agreed I would become one of the associated trainers of K-Infra. One of the best decisions in my career. K-Infra was only just established and Andres was focussing on delivering CP3P courses throughout the world following up on his role as lead editor of the CP3P Certification Guide as published in 2017. Till to date I have been able to deliver 16 CP3P courses to almost 300 participants in a range of countries including Indonesia, Pakistan, Spain, The Netherlands, Vietnam and The Gambia, all well received by the participants. I even have the highest trainer feedback of all K-Infra’s trainer, so it has been a mutually beneficially cooperation. We don’t see each other that much as we roam the world preaching the CP3P gospel so it’s good from time to time when the opportunity is there to touch base and share our experiences and ambitions looking forward.

I had the overnight flight from Brussels Airlines arriving Wednesday early morning back home. Unfortunately little time for R&R as I had to finish the third part of the PPP Guide for Georgia which describes the tender process. Thanks to the valuable inputs from my legal expert on this project Bruno Cazelet I managed to submit a working draft by Friday close of business. Next week we will discuss the work done to date with the Ministry of Finance in Georgia.

In between I also concluded my negotiations for my engagement in Dubai which is scheduled for end of March, provided an update of the progress on our PPP technical assistance in the Kyrgyz Republic to the ADB and received a request for proposal from the Ministry of Infrastructure in The Netherlands to deliver a CP3P Execution course some time in April. The work load continuous to be quite heavy and I need to carefully manage all these different commitments.

In the weekend I try to work as little as possible and spend time with the family. On Saturday my wife and I watched the weekly football match of our oldest son, a thrilling 3-4 victory, and on Sunday the weekly handball match of our youngest son, an unfortunate 10-12 loss. Good to see them enjoying their sports which we consider to be very important for their upbringing. Working in a team, discipline, pursuing a common goal, dealing with defeats, enjoying succes and most importantly, having a good time. Values we cherish.
