After some busy weeks finally some time for some R & R. For already some 25 years my wife and I enjoy a week of skiing in the winter period. And since we have children we do this together with the Verbrugge Family who also have 2 boys in the same age as ours and whom we met at a skiing holiday in 2007 in Ischl, Austria. This time the destination was Les Arcs 2000 in France. We had been to this ski area before, which is one of the largest ski areas in the world with some 600 km of slopes.
Unfortunately the holiday was not quite what we had hoped for and what we are used to. We had a horrific journey to France with massive congestion. The last 200 km took us more than 10 hours. During the week we had some heavy snow blizzards which forced us to stay indoors. It was way too crowded with heavy queues for the lifts. My wife was down the entire week with flu so she couldn’t enjoy any of the skiing at all.
And we received notice that we had a breaking and entering into our home. Most likely the thieves had been waiting for our departure before they made their move. According to the police they were only in the house for some 10-15 minutes, though long enough enough to steal some petty cash and more annoying my wife’s jewellery as well as to tear the house apart. All very frustrating. Fortunately we are blessed with very good neighbours and my sister-in-law who helped sort out most of the mess allowing us to return in a fairly cleaned up house.
Despite all these setbacks we have tried to make the best of our holiday. At least our children enjoyed their skiing and then again, when on the slopes I always love the scenery, and being active and doing stuff with my kids. Hopefully next year we will have a more relaxing skiing holiday.
